Internet of Things — from sensor to cloud

“IoT” or in German the “Internet of Things” or “Internet of Things” is the umbrella term for the networking of physical and virtual objects. If analog things also become virtual, so to speak, significantly more data can be generated. This helps to optimize, automate and simply make processes more efficient in many areas. 
In everyday life, we have long been benefiting from this, often without even being aware of it — think of the green lights on vacant parking spaces in the underground car park or smartwatches that track our steps.

IoT can and is used in every field — whether mobility, building management, energy supply, security, urban development, health and many more.

Wherever items of daily use are equipped with chips or sensors, data can be collected and subsequently exchanged between devices. 
With the help of IoT gateways such as edge PCs, the data is then transferred from the sensor to the cloud. In order to be able to derive decisions from the initially raw data and to achieve a truly smart and meaningful solution, the data is then integrated into analytics platforms. Business intelligence solutions make it possible to carry out complex analyses and, in addition to historical considerations, also benefit from predictive analytics. As a result, we gain opportunities to interact with things and work together and thus expand our scope of action. The more data is available, the more precisely and securely we can optimize processes and manage companies.

Lower costs, increased productivity and secure planning are among the biggest benefits of IoT in the long term. But the further development of AI also benefits greatly from the additional knowledge.
