The battle for the throne in enterprise software

If you want to be powerful, you need strong partners. The board members of leading software providers Salesforce and SAP also know this — both sides have recently entered into alliances with top players in the industry. While Salesforce acts on the market as strategic partners with Tableau and Apple, SAP CEO Bill McDermott is also trying to gain power with the collaboration he aims to achieve with Microsoft and Adobe. It is clear that both camps are pursuing the same goal — continuous and rapid growth.

The fact that Salesforce, in contrast to SAP, has always relied on cloud-based services, i.e. no local installation is required, could be the decisive advantage in the long term. Thanks to so-called cloud computing, virtual resources, for example, can guarantee constant performance even with intensive use, the system always remains up to date and the high level of flexibility and location makes the workflow much easier.

Business analytics

It became official in the second half of 2019 — the “software as a service” pioneer Salesforce had taken over the leading analytics platform Tableau Software. The cloud-based CRM provider is committed to understanding customers better and retaining them over the long term — through data, of course. As an analysis and visualization specialist, Tableau helps to make information accessible, to see more clearly and, above all, to create value.

So that well-founded insights can be quickly gained from the collected customer data and acted more efficiently, Tableau makes it possible to directly link and process the data generated with Salesforce. With Tableau Desktop's native connector, it is possible to establish a direct connection to Salesforce (in addition to a variety of other data sources). Click here for How-to video by Tableau.

A significant advantage over traditional analysis methods, which usually involve retrospective analysis, is the predictability of trends and potential developments. Thanks to the user-friendly presentation and intuitive usability of dashboards, data analysis is no longer reserved for IT departments and data scientists alone, but empowers employees in the individual divisions of the company — whether accounting, HR department, marketing or quality assurance — each department can make optimal use of its data.
Visualizations have become a kind of 'golden standard' of modern BI.

About Salesforce

Founded in 1999 by current CEO and former Oracle manager Marc Benioff, the cloud computing provider is one of the fastest growing companies in the world. The acquisition of Tableau as an analytics and data analysis specialist for 15.7 billion dollars is the biggest deal in the company's history to date.
